    stock looking shift handle for hurst shifter?

    i just bought a 63 that came with a hurst shifter, it shifts really nice but i would like to use a stock looking shift handle. the only ones i seen available dont seem to be compatible with my hurst set up. i was wondering if anyone here has come across this before?

    i am not sure what model hurst shifeter is in my car, so if you can click this link i have some pictures of it.

    any help is appreciated.

    thanks

    mike

    Mike;
    I have the same Hurst shifter in my '57. I had originally thought that the stock-looking bolt on shifters would work, however, as you found out they don't.
    I believe we both have very old Hurst versions. I eventually gave up, and stayed with the Hurst I have. However, I do know someone with a '60 that had the Hurst shifter shaft cut, and then welded to the origial look alike. The end result was the same, just a lot more work. Good luck.

        mike and paul: early hurst comp plus shifters had non-detachable handles while later ones had the handle bolted to the main body of the shifter. if there are a couple of bolts holding the shifter handle to the shifter, remove it and Corv. Central sells a 57 look-alike handle that'll bolt on the later comp plus 4 speed shifters. put one in my 57 in early 90's. mike

            I have a Hurst Comp Plus shifter in my 63, with the "stock looking" bolt on handle. As Paul observed, your shifter appears to be an earlier vintage, and the handle attaches differently.

            A new Hurst Comp Plus shifter with linkage will run you about $255 before tax, and the 63 handle (Long Island Corvette part no. -- Sec 32 #99A)is $100.

            Steve

            PS Hurst makes a Comp Plus application for C2's with a dogleg in the reverse arm so that it clears the center frame cross brace. The shifter that was in my car apparently was for a C1 and whoever installed it had cut a hole in the cross brace to allow the straight reverse arm to clear. If your shifter is an earlier vintage, you may find the same modification to the cross brace. I welded up the hole and will have the correct reverse arm when reassembling. (Body is off now)
