Re: #s search
With slow painstaking research.
There is no easy way. You can run the title with the state to see how far back their title history goes. If it jumps to another state, you then search there.
Most states are keeping only 10 years or less anymore, so you could easily run out of years before owners. So you would need to contact owners and see if they remember anyone or have any old paperwork.
Contacting previous owners is tricky. Not everyone will be happy to hear from you. Owners are previous as much because they lost or had to give up the car as for those who wanted to sell. So your odds of hitting a former owner still hurting from an ex-wife taking it or having to sell because of other family (or legal) obligations are high.
No one owes you any information. Anything someone offers is like a Christmas present.
If your car is like many, then it switched owners every few years, and you could have 10 owners easily, of which state records may only record 3.
Good luck.- Top

Re: #s search
Hello Mike,
How about searching for the original engine? I think I have a different engine. How does the coding work on the block? Last six, last eight charactors?
My last six are 117419. I think it'd be cool to know it's history. If it's near scrap, I'd like to pick it up and slowly revive it or at least practice dissecting for future repairs. (If I'm going to practice on a cadaver, at least it could be my own?!)
