Re: I agree with what you are getting at

There's nothing wrong with replacing an engine with a "correct" engine, providing the information about it NOT being the original engine be passed along to judges or potential buyers.

Also, a restored engine is just that.

I watched it, all I could think about is how they ruined it, and I kept thinking of the glass work gassing, and popping the paint over time, not to mention is was a restification and not a restoration....Craig

I too watched most of the show, I missed about the first 20 minutes. I thought the car looked great, if you like a hot rod vette, but I am also in favor of keeping a stock corvette stock. I don't know how many others saw it but there was a picture of a fuely motor in that show when they were talking about the new Edlebrock crate motor, think I can get that motor just to play with??

Don't you have to assume that her husband would know whether or not she wanted it "restored" or not? I think it is important to remember that these shows are done at the request of a responsible party, usually a spouse or a parent.

I usually like my Vettes unmolested, but my view is that this particular car was no prize to begin with, so it was a good candidate for the show.

There was only history back to 1970, the paint was gone, it was a base-motor (toasted), 'Glide, and the rear fenders had some "customizing". It wasn't like it was Zora's personal Top-Secret Big Block experimental or something.

With a guy like Chip Fooze doing the work, it was the best thing that could have happened to that '64.

Any doubts I had were eliminated when the car was presented to the owner. There was a lot emotion displayed from the owner and Chip, who had his 70-year old Dad come out of retirement to help work on it. I had to ask my wife for the Kleenex.

Only one WWII warplane has original engines...

...Does that mean the others should be hacked up and modified? Fact is, that's what happened to most of them. Now investors are spending truly stunning amounts of cash to put them back they way they were. Food for thought.

Interesting Link to the Lost Squadron, actually watched a documentary on that.
