    Mid Year Spring Liners...

Getting ready to order some spring liners for my 67. I see some places advertise NOS or repos. How does one tell the difference?

    Thanks, Bill Becker

    Bill-----

Spring liners under the original part number are still available from GM. The part number is GM #3794113 and currently GM list for 11.02/each. They come only in one length which is adequate for the longest leaf and the others must be cut to length. You only need about 5 or 6 of these as the cut off lengths can be used for the shorter leaves. However, if you use the cut off ends for the short leaves, you will have to punch the center hole and trim off the edges at the centers for spring mount bolt clearance.

These liners are as-original, graphite impregnated polypropylene. They MAY be just slightly thinner than the original material but it is undetectable.

Many "reproduction" liners do not have the edges, as original, and are just flat material.

      Bill:

I got mine from Quanta. I purchased the kit which includes a new bolt, correct paint, new bushings, and correct liners. The liners were very nice and had the edges. Putting in the bushings was the most difficult part for me.

You need to buy only 2 new liners. Cut ends off used liners and re use them two steps up. These liners wear out at the ends. Just shorten and recycle to the shorter leaves. Otherwise you end up spending $75-$90 for plastic liners plus money for sand blast plus money for paint(high zinc content for anti rust). Jack

I have the Quanta paint and liners from Long Island Corvette - $5 each. They are the same as the GM liner, polygraphite with the edges. I have some originals with the F41 spring I have and I can't tell the difference between the LI liners and the original GM....Craig
