I am trying to help a friend of mine, to locate and repair a constant draw on his battery of around 5 amps. We have been slowly eliminatimg circuits , but we are getting increasingly frustrated. Unfortunately we do not have a complete wiring diagram, and I must admit to being pretty much a novice to Corvettes. The anti theft system is a big suspect, but we are unsure as to all the component locations(relays, etc.). If anyone out there could offer some advice or provide any insight we would greatly appreciate it. The car had been sitting in a barn for the last 5 years so it needs attention, and we may be dealing with the reason it was parked to begin with. Again and help or direction is greatly appreciated!

Re: 82 C3 with draw on battery
Document ST359-82 will provide FULL schematic diagrams (not just simpleton wiring diagrams) for the full line of 1982 Chevy Passenger cars. Having this book makes it MUCH simpler to troubleshoot since you see what goes on inside each 'black box' that's connected to the wiring harness!
You might be able to get a copy from Helm, Inc. as they archieve and distribute most of the factory original documentation provided for American built cars and trucks. I've got copies of ST359-76 and ST359-80 (1976 and 1980 cars) that I picked up at a swap meet and it's a REAL JOY to have clear, consise schematic diagrams to work with that are on single, fold-out pages, vs. multi-page, poor quality wiring diagrams.- Top

Re: 82 C3 with draw on battery
If the battery is charged up, then try the windshield wipers just to see if they work. If they dont, then the over-ride switch may have been turned on. A lot of people never use the wipers and never know the switch has been turned on, which will draw power until it is turned off. Just another thing to check.

Re: 82 C3 with draw on battery
Bret. A friend of mine had a similar problem a few years ago with her 82. I don't remember the draw being as high as your 5 amps but...to make a long story short, the problem was found to be in the alternator. At least one of the diodes were bad, allowing current to feed back through the circuit. I had the alt checked out once by a " rebuilder" who said everything was ok, and after looking elsewhere with no success, another knowledgeable mechanic found the diode problem.
Something to consider maybe.
