    C5 Coupe or Z06

Well guys, given that C5's are selling below sticker plus the added GM incentive payment, I have been seriously thinking about buying one and might pull the trigger this weekend. After visiting a number of Chevy dealers and looking at the C5's on the lot, I like the looks of the commerative Lemans Blue coupe the best. However, I've always said that if I was to buy a C5, it was going to be a Z06! I guess I can't go wrong with either one, I would like some general feedback, pros and cons. Thanks

the ZO-6 are noisier, due to lack of some sound insulation to reduce weight, and lack the luggage space of the coupe. they are much quicker than the coupe but only come with a 6 speed. the tires on the ZO-6 are not run flats so they give you a can fix a flat and a small compressor to repair flats. some dealer are giving up to $12,000 off sticker on ZO-6s

I have an 02 convertable and just love the car with the top down.I would say what ever car you get they will run up in to the triple digits faster then a smart driver can deal with or normal roads can handel.i was told by another coupe owner that the top was a little heavey to put on and off.

Good Luck and enjoy the car your in for a treat

Depends on what the car is for. If the car is for racing then get the Z06. A much better platform to start from in my opinion. If it will be a daily driver, the C5 will be more enjoyable and you can always modify it later. Ask the dealer to remove the stripes from the 04 Z06 if he can. I believe it looks better.

If you always wanted the Z06, then buy the Z06. Anything else will always leave you wondering "Should I have bought the ..."

I think to make a fair comparison, you'd have to drive each. However, it isn't likely that a dealer will do that. So you need to check with anyone you know who has one. Hopefully, you are in a local club that has a couple.

Barring the drive, you need to do all the things you would do with the car normally - open trunk, remove top, sit in the seat and try to reach stuff in back, etc. The coupe is more room, the Z06 is more performance, my preference would be the convertible, but you didn't ask that.

I know where I can buy a brand new coupe, LeMans Edition with automatic, for $38,500. Sticker is over $50k. I'm sure you can get similar deals too.

Why buy a used one when the new ones are so cheap and have warranties???

One of my patients has had both a coupe and Z06. He only drives it to work and back, but loves the Z06 far better.

I recently traded an 01 conv, 6-speed for an 04 Z06. I wish I had my convertible back. Mostly I miss the lumbar seats. Also the z is a little harsh on the ride. The way it's geared also doesn't match my driving style as well as the convertible. It does run and handle great and the sound is wonderful.

I too am a GM employee (retired) and thought about the choice between the Z06 and Coupe, drove both and bought last week a 6 speed loaded mullenium yellow coupe with the 3.42 rear end and Z51. I love the look of the FRC but just had to have the hatchback. After driving both I really didn't like the rear and trunk on Z06. Glad I drove both. Just my 2 cents. Both are beautiful cars and you can't lose on either one buying at GMS plus $4000.00 bonus. Good Luck. Save the Wave.>George
