    63 Fuelie

I am looking at a 3782870 Block. The engine assebly date off the pad is F0103RF. The casting number is L312. I take this to mean that the block was cast on December 31st, 1962 and then assembled on Jan 3rd, 1963. Is this possible, or would there need to be more time between the casting and assebly.
    Thanks for your help.

Nope, that's not atypical.... I've got a '62 327 short block that's also a Christmas-New Year 'baby' with almost the identical date sequence. Remember, it's only about 40-miles from the Saginaw foundry to the Flint engine plant, GM ran their own fleet of transport trucks between the facilities and there were multiple work shifts at the two plants.

Heck it's even possible for engines to be cast and assembled the SAME day! Consider the case where the block was cast on 1st shift, pulled and transported to Flint on 2nd shift, then assembled into an engine on 3rd shift.... Didn't happen very often, but if inventory was moving hand-to-mouth it could and occassionally did happen.

            Tim,

Is the VIN still on that block? Probably is if the Flint info is still there. Thanks

Yes it is vin #3106432. The Engine assebly date is F0103RF. Cast date is L312 and engine code is 378280. The fuel unit is a 7017375--serial number 2898. I can't find anything wrong. How about you?

                Thanks for your help.

That sounds like an acceptible cast/assy time for the VIN. Thanks Tim
