    C1 turn signals

I recently installed a new turn signal canceling mechanism and spring in my 62. The canceling part works fine EXCEPT-the turn signal lever will not stay in the selected position until canceled by steering wheel rotation, it returns to center as soon as the turn signal lever is released. Has anyone else had this problem? Do I need to modify the selection arms to provide a steeper ramp? I purchased the canceling mech. from Corvette Central if that makes any difference. Also, I can't tighten the friction wedge for the turn signal housing enough to keep it from slipping on the column. Any suggestions here? A shim perhaps? What am I missing?
    Thanks

    Bud...

To tighten the fiction wedge, first make a 90 degree phillips. (I ground the one side off a two-way small phillips rachet) Remove the bottom column plate. Tape the side of the tach to prevent chipping and tighten. This will take some patience turning a little at a time.
Check the lever spring that is riveted to right side mechanism. this may be bent or not under the notchs top & bottom.

Bud... On the wedge, often you can cheat with pop/beer can aluminum piece slid in place. Dennis

Thanks for the ideas - I used a #1 Phillips insert bit ground down to about half its usual lenghth and turned it with a 1/4" open end wrench - the retaining wedge is now secure.
