I have a 69 BB with factory side exhust. Its mentioned as "reverse flow". Its sounds quite differant from the mid-year side exhust even though they look they same??? Why do they sound so differant?? Thanks Ray

NO Similarities
other than they mount on the sides. the mid year sides are a chambered pipe , the 69 are two sections that severely muffle the exhaust, hence the subdued sound. The Mid Years are literally straight through, the sound waves are simply broken up by the dimpled pipe.

I used the 69 side exhaust on my 70 starting about 1973 to 1985. 69 style side exhaust doesn't sound like the earlier Corvette side exhaust, but my car was a driver and when side exhaust became nothing but a expansion chamber for the exhaust, nothing but a shell of a muffler, it was loud. With my small block automatic it still sounded pretty good at WOT shifing from first to second about 60mph.Comment
