I was confused, see John and Joe's posts below for description of the bullet appearing illumination light, I was thinking of the capacitor and not paying enough attention to detail.....Craig

            Mike,

When I saw your post, I checked all the extra bulbs I didn't use, when I restored the console on my 67 two years ago. I think I got the bulb kit from Zip. Guess what- Taiwan. However, I only replaced the ones that were bad or dim. I tested each one with a battery charger, and if it was good I put it back in. I use the kit as spares for future bulb replacements.

I think we would be all surprised to find how many placement parts are really made overseas. I had the console out again about to months age to replace the non functioning original fuel and temperature gages. The new gages were labelled "AC Delco- GM restoration Parts", guess what "Made in Taiwan",
the calibrated GM temperature sender labelled the same, also "Taiwan".

            Westinghouse house light bulbs "China".

I'd like to take a pole of how many guys thought they were putting in USA electrical parts which were really made overseas. Guys, check your packages.

Incidentally, may shoulder has still not recovered from working under the console, and trying to get things back in the right places. I hope you did a sketch when you took it out.

Just received a complete lamp kit from corvette central. Guess what - made in China. Just plan on keeping them as spares. Their cheap and nice to have on hand.

                    Don,

I also saw your post on the temp sender, and I have found after three replacements that there are 3 types: the Kragens or Autozone(no markings, from Taiwan or China), the "GM Restoration Parts" one from Taiwan (no markings), and the AC Delco in a box which says "Made in USA" (from Zip, although Corvette Central, I think, sells the same one at 19.95).

The last one seems to work the best with the new AC Delco, made in Taiwan, Temperature gage, although I haven't really tested it out yet. My test is to tape a canning type thermometer to the upper radiator hose and then compare after the car is stopped, although I haven't really overheated the car as yet. My question is: Is the sender really made in the USA, or just marked that way?

On the cluster bulbs, I've also been researching on the internet whether one can even find USA made blubs, GE or Sylvania, with negative results. If anybody has a source for original reproduction bulbs, USA made, for the cluster, let me know and I would buy a set.

As soon as my chiropractor lets me, I would change every bulb to new on my 67.

Not sure any of the suppliers carry the GE lamps any longer. I guess we just have to make do with the offshore variety. Seems like everything else comes from China or Taiwan anyway!

The temp senders at Lectric Limited are brand new to the market, so I don't know if anyone has actually tried them yet. They are advertised as accurate and specifically designed to overcome the problems with the current replacements.

                            Addendum

There is another assembly, as I described above.
It attaches to a slot on the bottom of the clock "holder" in the dash. It illuminates the heater/fan switches.

                                Don,

I thought I'd let you know that I tested out today, the new AC Delco temperature sender, "made in USA" (from Zip), with the new AC Delco temp gage (Made in Taiwan, and they seem to be accurate to my canning thermometer taped to the upper radiator hose.

The new gage looks like the original, although you have to take out this little resistor in the mounting when you mount it.

I also went on the Lectric Limited website and ordered their new sensor and a bulb set. We will see how that sensor works, and where the bulbs are from.
