Hello, I recently had my 4 spd. rebuilt for my 1958 big brake car and I am not so happy with the appearance of the aluminum tailhousing. Although it is really clean, it just doesn't look like I feel it could. Does anyone have any tips to help me dress it up without disassembling the tranny again?

Re: aluminum tailhousing cosmetics
Justin, I have used aluminum wheel cleaner (use the stronger version( to clean bare finishes. Throughly wet the object with water before soraying with the wheel cleaner. You can use a still bristle brush to clean the surface. Rinse throughly and allow the item to dry and see if it is the desired finish. Repeat as necessary. You will need to oil any sttel bolts and brackets after you finish as the wheel cleaner is an acid.
Used prodtective gloves and safety glasses. Use in a well ventilated area. Aluminum brightner is phosphoric(spelling) acid.
