    63 Headlight Motor "Color"

The 63 is apart. Have both original dated headlight motors in my garage now. Want to "clean them up", not do a 100 point concours restoration.

I've seen pictures of "restored" headlight motors with the motor case painted flat/semi gloss black, and I've seen pictures of "restored" headlight motors with the motor case "natural". Mine are "natural", but have a generalized "rust tone patina". I think natural is correct. Comments? Thanks in advance. Chuck

Thanks, Mike. That's what I thought, but I've been "out of" midyear restoration and judging for some time, and the old brain "ain't" what it used to be. Also, when one looks at "restored" headlight motors...in person, or viewing pictures, both painted and natural are shown. Chuck

            Chuck,

Just sent off my original motors and they are as you described. In fact Rick the rebuilder happended to mention that they rust because they were not painted. As with all my parts I send out for repair it's hard to get them to do a "no cosmetics" job for a driver.

Chuck - I put a light dusting of stainless steel spray from Seymour on mine, it looks great, not like paint. This was a suggestion from Steve Hack at Eastern Corvettes who restores and judges midyears. It doesn't look like paint, rather, steel, and it protects it from rust. Just a choice.......here is the link.....Craig
