    Dist. shaft replacement

My cross gear lost some teeth and bound the dist. shaft. If I'm putting a new shaft in I thought I'd install new bushings. I see many shops offer the installtion tool to do this.
Anything I should look out for? Any experience or recommendation is appreciated.

Gary very good information is available from www.tispecialty.com. One thing I noted was that the upper bushing does not always require replacement. I have been putting off this some project on my 68 because I want to have the top piece removed from my original distributor shaft and rebrazed to the the replacement shaft.

Rarely will the top bushing show wera, except in a couple of cases where I have seen wear on the outside of the bushing in the area where the vacuum advance rides. It appears that the thrust from the drive gear coupled with engine "grit" in the oil entering the oil hole above the lower bushing are the drivers of the lower bushing wear.

I would then use a flash light and look to see if the rear cam gear lost any.
