    Re: Removal of krylon paint

Jon, I used Berkibile 2 + 2 to remove the paint on my fan shroud. I wore nitrile gloves and used 0000 steel wool. Came right off and left a nice bare glass surface behind. Good luck.

        fear factor

Brian, I admit that I'm a little hesitant ,like Steve, when it comes to stripping that underbody. Much of it is due to the fear of harming the underbody not to mention the time and effort involved. Oh well, nothing worth while comes easy. It just frightens me when Chuck says "don't let the stripper on any longer than it takes to soften the paint." Now I have a new phobia let alone worrying about whether the sheets of plastic are covering everything on the exterior body. I'd just as soon eat sheep eyes and bull ********s hanging from a crane 100 feet above the earth than clean that mess up. Thanks for the input everyone! I'll keep you in my prayers Steve and expect the same from you.
        Best regards, Jon

Take a Deep Breath...Let It Out Slow...

Relax, Jon, I say things like that to keep you from putting stripper on the entire underbody and leaving it in some areas until the entire job is done.

Since you won't be painting the underbody fiberglass, I don't know that leaving the stripper on the fiberglass for an extended period would make much difference. I haven't experimented to see if stripper would physically damage fiberglass, but there's no point in tempting fate. Just work 2-3 square foot areas all the way down to clean, shiny fiberglass, then start another one repeating the process until the job is done. I have used the same generic stripper product and technique to strip the body color off a door and a T-top with no ill effects.

I don't mean to sound like overkill on the plastic, but if you get any stripper on any painted surface it will...strip it! If you use the gel, and since you are UNDER the car, the stripper is most likely going to fall on you rather than on body color because that's the way gravity works.

There will be close tolerances where you can't get your stripper loaded brush without smearing the chassis...if it's covered with plastic, it's no biggie, but if it's not covered, the gloss will be damaged even if you wipe it off FAST. It's a small chance you will get any on your rocker panels unless you forget and...uh-oh...grab your rocker as a hand hold to climb out using your slimy stripper-covered glove. A little insurance would be a good idea for me.

                    Bull Chips...

What you get when you slice'em thin and deep fry'em.

Sorry, Terry, but there are too many better cuts on a beeve than to selectively eat the reproductive organs.

Chuck, I'm going to give it a go. Small areas at a time. Hope I can stop the knees from shaking.
                        Thanks again Chuck! Jon

                                Re: Bull Chips...

Bull Chips...Nah, I just made that one up; typically I think they're sliced thicker and they're breaded, fried and left tender in the center. But the descriptions do vary...Prairie Oysters, etc.

In fact, I saw my first in Denver in the late 70s at "Baby Doe's Lost Mine" restraurant. My boss's wife saw them on the menu, where they were described in gentile terms, and she had to have some. Everybody at the table knew what they were except her, and he tried to talk her out of ordering them. After she ate a couple (Ummm, these are good!), he told her what they were. He should have accepted ignorance as bliss, because what happened next was far from bliss...He probably slept on the couch for awhile.

Aw, Terry, yer too modest, man. Git you an ole greasy, sweat-stained Stetson, a similarly stained blue denim snap-button shirt, and I bet you could fit in any real cowboy bar.
