C2-ammeter needle not centered

my 63 ammeter works great, but the needle is not on "0" at rest. it's a little to the positive side so all my readings are higher than they should be. i've pulled on the needle a little, but it's on pretty tight and i'm afraid of breaking the shaft. does anyone know any tricks for fixing this problem.

Mac,

Pull harder! No just put a flat screwdriver behind the cone and pop it off. Then center it and push firmly on the center of the needle to replace it. Good as new.

thanks jr, let me make sure i understand. am i to pry the needle from the shaft or pry the needle apart, leaving part of it on the shaft. i'm probably a little over cautious as i broke the shaft on my tach removing the needle and had to replace it.

Mac,

Remove the needle from the shaft. If anything is left on the shaft you are doomed. It will only take a little nudge for it to pop off. Place the flat blade of the screwdriver against the shaft and push up on the collar of the needle.

Done it hundreds of times with success. There is always that one though.

thanks again jr, i think i've got it. i'm going to try it this morning. you probably know this, but if not, my ammeter was completly dead, i removed the male connectors from the rear and cleaned the part that connects to the meter and the screws with the wire brush and put them back on and it works great now.

worked great jr. it was so easy, i got cockey and did the oil gauge also.
