I have replaced the A/C compressor on my 69 twice this year only to have the front seal blow out both times. The rebuilt compressors were from two different suppliers/rebuilders. I understand the front compressor seal is a weak point in this vintage compressor, is there a front seal solution or known supplier that will keep my compresssor in operation?? I would like a solution that matchess up to the otherwise factor orginal A/C.

Re: A/C Compresssor Seal on 69
Steve - join the crowd, the rebuilders use the crap carbon seals. You need to order the GM ceramic seal (was only used more recently, and replaces the original technology on the A6 compressor). You need tools to install it, or take it to someone that knows how.......it is a permanent fix. Don't go with the aftermarket seals......Craig- Top

Craig, Steve, probably a lot of the older GM mechanics have the tools personally.. Most dealerships have lost, disposed of the AC tool kits for A-6's. I have bought 2 kits (none for sale) over the years from dealerships.Dick Whittington- Top

Dick - I have all the tools, but I just wanted Steve to be aware it can't be done without them. Robinair and Snap-on still have the tools....they can be a bit pricey new, I bought mine at a used tool outlet here in Tucson. There is a clucth holding wrench, clutch puller, clutch installer, seal remover and installer tool, and a deep reach snap ring pliers to get in the snout. If you are only doing one, it is a lot of items to get....in my case, I have about 4 cars with A6 compressors....Craig- Top
