    1954 235 Engine

    Hello,

First off I would like to introduce myself. I do not have a Corvette, I restore Chevy trucks. You may be asking "whats this truck guy doing here?" well, this is why. My current project is a 1951 Chevrolet pickup. When I purchased this truck it came with a 235 inline six cylinder engine, casting # 3835911. I believe this to be a 1954 Corvette engine and head (# 8825913). I am thinking that this engine would be better off in a Corvette then in my truck. It did run, but this engine is in need of a complete rebuild, and as I am not familiar with Corvettes, I am not sure the oil pan is original. There are no manifolds, it had manifolds for my truck on it. I have come to your forum to see if you all think this engine would be worth somthing to a Corvette restorer. Please note, I am not currently selling this engine, just looking for info. I would rather see it in a nice Corvette then my truck. Thanks.

Could be a Vette. Most likely a truck engine as they had the same casting number. You need to check the pad stamping. The Vette will be F54YG, the truck just F54Y. The head is definitely NOT Vette. For anyone needing a Vette engine, this is an easy exchange, relatively speaking.

The GM #3835911 cylinder block was used on later 1953 through 1955 Corvettes with 235 cid 6 cylinder engines. However, it was also used on many other 1953-1955 applications, too; it was not, at all, unique to Corvettes. Nevertheless, the block would be valuable to someone restoring a 53-55 Corvette for which the block's date code would be correct.

As far as I know, the GM #3835913 cylinder head was not used on Corvettes. However, it was used on just about all other 1953-55 (and, possibly, later) 235 cid applications. 1953 Corvettes used cylinder head GM #3836066. 1954 and 1955 Corvettes with 235 cid used cylinder head GM #3836241. I believe that both of these casting numbers were Corvette-only pieces which makes them quite difficult to locate.
