82 vette rear window area refurbishing

my recently acquired vette has apparantly had leaks in the rear coupe window area.
There are some water spots (lighter spots where the water has leaked and lain) on the surface right under the window. This surface seems to be a thin vinyl over
cardboard or some type of composite material. Does anyone know how to refurbish this area. (Some type of product such as dye or paint or ???)Thanks in advance.

I've had that out in my 78 and believe its the same in 82...it's called the back window garnish molding. But you're right it's like pressed cardboard with a plastic/vinyl covering. I'll have to check when the sun comes up but believe flat black vinyl interior trim paint works fine. Drop me a note and I'll confirm.

Tom--I did not know there was vinyl interior trim paint. I took the molding out today.(It comes out very easy) It looks like the finish is a flat vinyl. I do not have a JG yet (It is in the mail)so I do not know what finish to use. Armorall does not cover the water stains up. I do not know why GM used black instead of the silver green which the rest of the trim is-- which I believe would have looked better.
        Thanks for your response.

Yeah...there is not a lot to it. I picked this up at NAPA. It's called Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric and the color on the label is flat black vinyl. However I suspect if you've Armoralled it...it might be messy. I doubt the paint will cover it and you can't clean because of the porosity of the molding. Try it somewhere where it won't show if you attempt it.

It's probably not green...cause they made tens of thousands and all interior garnish molding is black (rear). The front does offer some variation but the dash pad is black along with the dash...a break from tradition in 78.
