Battery Storage Compartment Gasket

The gasket is missing so although the compartment door latches, it rattles. I purchased the gasket. It is a dense foam about 1/4 inch thick. I need to know if it is correct to use an adhesive on the bottom of the gasket or does it just dry fit in place? Thanks.

On my 69 the gasket is attached with adhesive. I'm fairly certain that 70 would be the same.

I just replaced the original gasket on my 71. It was held in place with adhesive. I did the same on replacement.

Do you think a spray type would work or something more like a thicker, caulk type. Thanks for the replys.

I guess you could use a spray if you mask off the frame to prevent overspray. I used weatherstrip adhesive. Got it at PepBoys for about $5 for a small tube. Applied with a Qtip to both surfaces and installed gasket.

Be sure to get the straight piece of foam that is formed around the compartment frame. Some repros are die cut, pre-formed to the compartment shape in one continuous piece. The originals had a definite end.
