    54 lighting demons

Finally got my 54 out of the repair mode and went out for an ice cream. Directionals worked fine until it was time to turn on the headlights. Headlights worked fine, but the directionals didn't function at all. At home I shut off the headlights and the directionals were again working. Seemed I could have one but not both systems operate. My repair work was putting on a new exhaust system so no work on the electrical. Can't say if this existed before because it's a new addition to the fleet.

    Bill -

Design-wise, the two systems are totally independent of each other, so something must be chafed/shorted between the two. The turn signal flasher gets its power from an 18-ga. pink wire that's a pigtail (with an in-line fuse) from the "I" terminal on the gas gauge, and the other side of the flasher feeds power to the turn signal switch through an 18-ga. yellow wire.

        Grounds

Classic ground problem. The exhaust may have been your ground previously.Or you could just have corrosion on the grounds from sitting.
