I have a question about correct casting numbers for my car. I have gone thru a ton of these messages in the archive and found some real good info. I have a 62 with a build date of Feb. 14 and would like to know what dates the side cover , main case , and tail shaft should have? Dates how far apart. etc. From what I have read the cases should NOT have the Bowtie on them. Assuming from what I have read that the dates for the correct trans should be mid to late Dec. I bought a trans at a swap meet and the main case has the Warner ident as WC2823 for March 28th 62 3rd shift but the vin is S233319 which doesn't make sense to me for a 62? The side cover has a date of 12-22-61 and the tail shaft 1-17-62. All these cases are in great shape. The gears have a rust spot in one place on each with some pitting are they any good? What is it worth? What is your suggestion on how I should proceed to get,build a good trans. Sorry for such a long winded question.Thanks for the info I have already gleened of of this site .#31511

You've got a great transmission for a passenger car or pick-up truck perhaps even a Chevrolet provided that vehicle was built after April 15th or so.
It doesn't belong in your Corvette. Realistically, who's to see it? If you want to "restore" it, and I hope this post doesn't set off all the crusaders in the NCRS, I can tell you off-line how to remove the assembly date and vin stamp. I can suggest how to recreate the grain in the casting and restamp the main case with information to match your car. The creation of casting flash is no problem.
