the speedo gear if turned at the trans mission is moving the needle at dash, the question is i cannot feel any other gear inside the trans gear case hole. I had previously dropped the green speedo gear inside the case , trying to install , i have found you need to install with the adapter and gear. should i not be able to feel the mating gear , or am i missing a step here.

The speedometer DRIVEN gear ABSOLUTELY MUST be installed as an assembly with the fitting. You CANNOT install the driven gear without the fitting and expect it to do anything but fall into the case, most like irretrievably.
Assuming that your fingers are long enough, you should be able to insert one through the orifice in the extension housing and "feel" the speedometer DRIVE gear. For 1968-70 Corvettes, if the transmission is original, the DRIVE gear is nylon and is usually not misaligned since it is retained to the shaft with a clip which, if installed correctly in the first place, will ensure the exact correct positioning of the drive gear. This is not the case for 57-67 T-10s and Muncies or 71-81 Muncies and T-10s. Those transmissions can EASILY have a mis-aligned speedometer DRIVE gear unless VERY careful attention is paid to them when the transmission is disassembled/assembled. The DRIVE gears used in those transmissions have NO provisions for precise positional indexing on the main shaft. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 69 speedo 101
thanks for the response Joe , i did drop the gear inside and learned this is wrong, so pulled tranny and retrieved , i suspect i would have looked in the hole for the other gear , but was maybe too busy patting my back that i got it out without taking the case apart. i cannot feel the gear but i can feel the shaft . can i send the case # and see if you recognize as orig, i suspect it is , wouldnt mind running it by you just to make sure. thanks- Top
