    69 speedometer help

I have 2 problems with my speedometer# 1 how is the best way to get at the bulb for the high beam indicator? I really don't want to have to take the dash pad off but it looks as though it is about the best way? #2 I can't get the trip odometer to reset.Do I need to remove the speedo to fix this problem? If so I geuss I might as well do both the same time. I am trying to avoid taking the dash all apart. Thanks in advance for the help.

It's virtually impossible to get at the lamps which are mounted in the rear of the speedometer housing without, at least, pulling the dash panel forward. Whenever changing these lamps, I recommend replacing ALL of the lamps at the same time.

As far as the trip odometer reset goes, the first thing that I would try is to remove the cable bracket from the bottom of the dash and "straigten out" the cable. Then, try to see if you can reset it. If you can, then it means that the cable is binding and you need to re-align it to avoid the bind. Most likely, though, you won't be this lucky and you still won't be able to get the reset to work. In that case, you'll need to remove the speedometer from the car for repair. The good news is that when you remove the speedometer for repair, it will be easy to replace the bulbs. As I say, replace ALL the bulbs in the dash at this time.

The answer JOe provides is correct on both items, i believe you can work on the dash easilly , top dash pad screws must be removed all the way across, then remove screws holding the driver side panel and the side at centre guage , pull up the top dash pad slightly and take the two bolts holding the steering column and pull the column down slightly , carefully pull dash pad out a couple inches the grey wires are the bulbs and be carefull they will break off quite easilly if tugged too agressively, the dash brace usually blocks a nice bend for the trip odometer , . a good time to replace headlight switch also.
