    "Fuelie" Oil Pan Part #

Is the correct part # for the fuelie oil pan 359942 and would it still be available from GM? How about the smaller oil pan #360866, is it still available from GM?
    Thanks in advance.

Mike - Joe will chime in on the fuelie pan P/N, but the 360866 is the 5Qt pan and is not available from GM or reproduction. One just sold last week (NOS) on Ebay for about $340 or so.......so you have to watch for used or NOS examples there or at swap meets....Craig

I had the seller send me some additional photos of the pan. It was new but the bottom was pushed-in about an inch. Even with damage, they are rare and pricey.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm more interested in finding out if part # 359942 (6 qt.) is the correct fuelie oil pan part number and is it still available form GM. Thanks, Mike

            Check the archieves....

Joe Lucia has given us detailed parts history narrations on oil pans several times. Basically, there were a several PN running changes over the years with the differences being rather minor. Some pans are still available in their 'last release' form from GM Canada. They'll fit/function OK, but have minor visual telltale differences from that of a given, prior era, factory original oil pan. You Chevy parts counter man should be able to tell you pretty quickly if there's a service replacement pan for your application in the system with a simple phone call.

              Mike-----

The original oil pan for your application was a "6 quart" capacity of GM #3820001. That part was discontinued and replaced about 1976 with GM #359942. The latter part is identical to the 3820001 EXCEPT that the front oil pan seal radius was changed to the 75+ style size. This difference cannot be discerned with the pan mounted on the engine. Unfortunately, the GM #359942 was discontinued about 5 years ago, is not reproduced, and is difficult to find and expensive when you do.

The GM #360866 is the 1976 replacement for the original "5 quart" pan used on most 1963-74 Corvette small blocks. It replaced original pan GM #3820000 and it differs from it exactly as described above. It's discontinued, too, and is at least as difficult/expensive to locate. Since this pan is applicable to FAR more 63-74 Corvettes, demand is much higher for it.

The "5 quart" pan can be used in place of the "6 quart" with no other modifications required, whatsoever. Oil pump, oil pump screen, dipstick tube, and dipstick are the interchangeable with either pan.
