      Geezer-----

I'm not completely sure, myself. However, they seem to be activated by a secondary pushrod that is somehow activated by the intake valve rocker shaft. I can't discern just how this is accomplished, though. It may be off a cam on the intake rocker shaft or some other mechanical arrangement.

        Addendum

        Geezer------

I think that I've got it figured out now. The rocker arms are shaft mounted. The intake pushrod activates the intake rocker arm which then actuates both intake valves, apparently simultaneously (or, perhaps, slightly "phased" by the actual configuration of the rocker arms to each valve). A PRIMARY exhaust pushrod activates the shaft-mounted exhaust rocker arm. This rocker arm then actuates the pedestal-mounted, exhaust valve rocker arm via the short SECONDARY pushrod.

this setup was used on a 1939 BMW

to have a cross flow head. a corvette engineer told me that the 3 valve head will be on trucks but not corvettes.

That secondary-pushrod design on the '39 BMW was later copied by Bristol, who used it for many years, including selling that engine to AC Cars for use in the AC-Bristol and the Aceca.
