I have a pair of these heads #3884520. I was wondering what their application was and whether it was worth the expense to recondition them and then sell them. Thanks in advance,
David Nims #19639
The GM #3884520 cylinder heads were originally used in PRODUCTION for 1966 and 1967 283 applications in passenger cars, Chevelles, Chevy II, and trucks. These heads have 1.72" intake valves, 1.50" exhaust valves and 61cc, nominal, combustion chamber volume.
While their PRODUCTION use was limited to the above, these heads are also applicable to most 57-61 Corvette applications as a SERVICE part. Externally, they are configured just like the 57-61 "power pack" heads, including the "triangle" or "single peak" casting symbol. Since there is no way to discern the casting number on C1 cylinder heads when the heads are installed on the engine and in the car, these heads would represent excellent replacements for someone with a C1 and wanting original configuration, if not the original casting number.
283 cylinder heads are going to be getting "rarer and rarer" as time goes on. I sure wouldn't throw these away even though they were never originally used on a Corvette.
