    C1

I FOUND A 1959 CORVETTE JUST 3 MILES FROM MY HOUSE. THE OWNER HAD IT OF 30+ YEARS. HE HAS THE BODY OFF AND BOXES OF PARTS, AND WILL SELL. WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR AND CHECK. WHAT PRICE IS FAIR.

FIRST TIME USING THE MESSAGE BOARD.
    THANKS DAN

    Re: C1

Buying a car in boxes can be your worst nightmare. It can also be a wonderful deal. Is is more common for it to be the former than the latter. You MUST take someone who is very familiar with 58-62 Corvettes with you to look at the car. They will be able to tell fairly quickly what is missing or unuseable. There are many parts to the car that are readily available in reproduction, others thatare rare as hen's teeth. The repo parts are usually expensive, the real parts are frequently mind boggling.
The mechanical parts are not too important unless you want to build a show car. Engines and transmissions are readily available and parts from you local junkyard can be easily adapted. The small but critical items such as windshield frame parts, wiper parts, heater switch, etc. can be very costly.
Get in touch with you locaL Corvete club and find someone in your area to help you. Be prepared to pay a couple of hundred bucks or more + expenses, though someone may volunteer to go for free. It will be some of the best money you ever spent.

            Hi Dan,

Would you mind contacting me with the VIN # of this car? I am the creator and webmaster of the 1959 Corvette Registry, and would love to be able to add the car.

            Regards,

            Jim Brady
