Here are the Corvette prices from the huge Flinspach estate auction today in Fairfield, Iowa. Keep in mind these were mostly VERY rough, basket case cars AND the buyer paid a 10% "buyers premium" on top of these figures.
    '53 - 44k, '54 - 21.5k, '56 - 19.5k, '57 - 29k, '58 - 21k, '59 - 30k, '62- 26.5k, '67 - 20k

The 53 had no vin tag, a 55 body, wrong motor, wrong top,and few boxes of parts. The 54 had a wrong motor ,right head, few boxes of parts. The 57 was not and orginal fuel car. The 56 had a half of a rear clip put on it, no motor or trans, and hit in the frt. The 62 had both tops, rear flares, and just a rough car. The 67 big block car had been hit hard in the frt. hood was shot, wrong motor, right heads. A mid year conv. top went for $1700.00, a set of pitted and boken stud trunk iron's $1100.00. 1965 GTO tri power car, conv. $22000.00 + a huge crowd. john

      John:

I received a brochure for this auction as well. There was suppose to be a Chevrolet big block aluminum head motor. Do you know what it was and what it sold for? I was thinking of going for that item. Thanks, Warren

There was alot of blocks and heads, but I did not see that motor. The motor that was with that 67 conv. was a 69 big block, with the 3x2 and mainifold. Maybe that motor had the aluminum heads. But it went with the car. A set of NOS 55 chevy frt. fender's went for $1700.00 and a set of NOS 64 GTO frt fender's went for $1400.00 + the 10%.

          John:

Thanks for your reply. I just pulled out the flyer sent to me, about this auction. Under parts, it says 40 years of Accumulation, Thousands of Parts!

          Features original Corvette Knock-Off Wheels

          Early Fuel Injection Unit

          NOS Solid Axle Corvette Parts

A lot of engines -- 1 Aluminum Head Big Block

          etc,etc,etc,.......

I appreciate your checking, was very curious about it, sounds like it would have been fun to rummage thru all the parts!

Also, doesn't sound like any bargains, either!

            Re: Auction results + more= heavy hiter's

I took a pocket full of money to spend and took home nothing. I couldn't beleive it. There was a couple of heavy hiter's that wanted every thing. I guess they have more of a vision than I do. The advertising could have been a little miss leading, but Mechum did a great job. I do not know what the wheels went for. john

Where do you guys come from? And, who attended that auction--I saw photos of the cars and saying they were rough is an understatement.

I live in Davenport and would love to get to know anyone in the area that is also on this board.

                Re: Auction results + more= heavy hiter's

I knew Fred for over thirty years. He was a true "car guy". Just a good old boy farmer who prefered to put his money into cars and parts rather than stocks or other investments. He was a little lacking in completeing the restoration - never did any. His widow was the beneficiary of the auction. i also thought Mecum did a good job and did not miss-represent anything in the advertising. They did try to play up the "found in a barn" aspect. It was a HUGE crowd and no bargins that I saw. I have no idea what the aluminum head engine went for. I think it was out of a race car and the block was a '69 casting number. I bought a $10 piece of fiberglass for old times sake but not the fuel unit I really wanted. Don H.

The big block was sitting with numerous other engines.
Did not see what it went for.
                    The wheels went for 4900.00
The cars were basket cases but had lots of NOS parts that went with them.
                    There were no bargins.
                    I bought some select items.
Most knew the value of was sitting there.
