Re: 67 Won't Shift Into Reverse
Probably you need to adjust the shifter linkage. If the arms are out of adjustment, the ears on the shifter will not align the gate so the shifter handle can move between to get into the slot in that ear.
With Hurst shifters, this was easy to do. You took a drill bit the right size (about a 1/4 inch) and slid in the alignment hole on the shifter just above the ears. then adjusted each arm.
On the stock shifter, it is a bit more work.- Top

Re: 67 Won't Shift Into Reverse
Years ago I had a Muncie that would not go into reverse. Turned out to maybe be a burr or something on the shaft. Fixed it in the car by putting a wrench on the shift tang nut and gently moving it back and forth till it moved into gear. Never a problem after that.- Top

Re: 67 Won't Shift Into Reverse
There is a reverse lock out. When I take the ball off the shifter there is a spring on top and a rod attatched to the T handle. The rod will just pull out. Is it supposed to b attached to any thing? It does not look like it should, but I,m not sure how the lock out works.- Top

Re: 67 Won't Shift Into Reverse
When extended, the rod on the reverse tee hits a knob that prevents the shifter from moving into position to move the reverse linkage. If the rod is removed it should go into reverse. The knob is the end of a threaded shaft that is welded to the shifter. The knob could move but it is not likely and would possibly affect you ability to shift into 1st or 2nd.
I suggest getting under the car and checking the condition of the linkage. It is tight fit. The picture below shows what the linkage looks like. The trimmed paint stick seen in the picture is being used to adjust the linkage.
