    C1 Window Post Tabs

As I get ready to paint and chrome my '56, I am curious about the "infamous" broken tabs on the window posts. Since I haven't disassembled it yet, I do not know what shape they are in. Is there any method of removing them that will spare the tabs in the event that they aren't broken?

Using a rubber mallet remove it evenly , don't pry it from the top area or bottom.

Steve, I just lifted the complete windshield assembly from my '57 and had no problem with the tabs. I think most are broken when the assembly is rocked back and forth to break the seal. Try to go straight up.

Cal - Likewise on my 62 recently. You need to be equally careful on re-install and not over tighten those tab studs, AND make sure that the rubber fill strip(s) under each post are there as required. Regards, Dick

Tabs are SELDOM broken by removal/installation of windshieldframe--they are almost always broken by a shrunken soft top being clamped down trying to make it stretch and clamp both on the windshield header and on the deck lid.
