Need your help. My 390 hp car has a casting number of 3866948 and a date code of E87. My car was built on March 1, 1967. This intake in the correct casting but the wrong date. I have heard that most all of the 67 390 hp intakes were cast in 1966 and used most of the 1967 model year. Is this correct and what date would be correct for my car? Thanks

I was not aware that the GM casting #3866948 manifolds were all cast in 1966 for 1967 usage. I think that you're thinking about the 1967 small block cast iron manifold. In any event, your manifold essentially proves that this was NOT the case inasmuch as it's a 3866948 and it was, apparently, cast on May 8, 1967.
The only way that a 1967 Corvette built on March 1, 1967 could have left the factory with an intake manifold cast on May 8, 1967 would be if the car was "detained" in heavy repair at St. Louis and had the engine originally installed in it replaced due to an engine problem. It's very unlikley that the car would have sat around for over 2 months to have this accomplished and, if this is what happened, I would expect other components of the engine to have similar casting dates. Like I say, I really doubt it, though. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1967 - 427 - 390 hp intake manifold
Thanks, I agree with your thoughts. I am just trying to get a handle on the date that would be correct. You have added to my knowledge that this was the case for the small block. So, I guess I should be looking for a L 66, A 67 or B 67 to be correct. Thanks for your input. If someone has one...let me know.
