    Mid-year side yoke problem

I just bolted the original 3.36 rear back into my 67 tonight after a friend rebuilt it. He had to use a set of side yokes from another rear that originated in a 68. Problem was that when I started to bolt up the half shafts, the u-joint did not fit into the "68 side yoke". It seems that the 68 side yoke requires a u-joint with a larger cap. Does anyone know an easy solution to this problem. I don't want to take the rear back out and replace the side yokes.
As always, thanks in advance for your help. Rex NCRS #8089

The cap type stub axles were the same from 1965 through 1979. They were ALL GM #3872922. It's possible that the axle is u-bolt type (and, consequently, will not have the holes drilled and tapped) or it's an aftermarket cap type axle. However, all of the aftermarket cap-type axles that I've seen work perfectly with the GM caps.
