Big Block power steering belt slippage

I have a 74 big block vette and I'm having some serious p/s belt slippage at the water pump. According to the tech drawings, I'm supposed to have a belt that goes from the crank pulley to the water pump. Since you can't adjust the spacing between those pulleys, there is an idler pulley that bolts to the block to tension the belt. When I bought the car there was a grooveless pulley that came with some other spare parts. Anyone know the length of this belt or some other way to help my p/s belt problem? I've tried different belts on the p/s as well as tightening the snot out of it. Could my problem be the water pump pulley itself? Thanks,

Cliff, the pulley that you have without a groove mounts on the front of the block, serpving as an idler pulley to tension the water pump belt. It runs on the Top side of the belt. With out a lengthy post to describe it, I suggest that you look at an Assembly Manual for your car. I think the you will find the illustrations you need under the C-60 option. Parts are available from Paragon.
