    Clutch pivot ball stud wear

My frame bracket mounted ball stud is extemely worn. It looks like it is welded / pressed on. Paragon sells one but how do I install?

    Thanks, Chris

They are welded on, the passenger cars were bolted on.

Do you have a bracket or pivot ball problem? The bracket is welded to the frame and the ball attaches to the bracket with a nut and is easly removed.

Sorry for me the stud is welded on as it is supposed to be.

I need to find someone to come to my house with an arc welder and weld the ball on.

If yours is bolted it is from a passenger car, the corvette's were welded from the factory.

What year Corvette are we discussing? Are we talking about the same thing? The outside pivot ball is a ball stud and is held to cross shaft clutch bracket with a nut, assorted washers and hardware. The bracket is welded to the frame. This is the case on all five corvette that I've owned (64, 65, 66, 68, 69), my brother in laws 1975 plus numerous customers Corvettes. Section #28 of the C2 Long Island Corvette catalog shows the pivot ball stud in a diagram and there is a clear assembly drawing in the AIM.

              Bill-----

I believe the car is a C1. C1s used a clutch ball stud that was welded to the frame bracket. This was an incredibly stupid way to manufacture it, but I suppose there's a rationale for it that's now lost in antiquity. They got it right for 1963 and later, though, when the frame side ball stud was attched to the frame bracket by a nut and special retainer/washer.

                Joe

Thanks for clearing this up. I've had little experience wth the C1 Corvettes, but many long days and nights working on the C2's and C3's. This is why it's important to give the year when posting.

Sorry for confusion, Chris' car is a 62. I just assumed from his many posts that everyone knew he is working on a C1. As usual Joe is right, GM got it right in 63, before that they were welded and a much bigger job to replace.
