66 Center console rebuild

I am rebuilding my center console on my 1966 Vett. I purchased the aluminum replacement pieces, shift patten and the aluminum surrounding the gear shift. My question is do I remove the aluminum pieces that are on the console or apply the new pieces on the old?

I forgot to add. If I replace how do I get the old pieces off?

Remove the old, replace with the new. Use lacquer thinner to clean up the original adhesive. The new shift pattern can be discerned by experienced judges, as a replacement. Keep that in mind during your restoration.

Ken,

Best way to remove the old aluminum is with a heatgun and a small putty knife.

Check your replacements to the original ones- I have seen SEVERAL repops that aren't even close to originals-much less fit w/o work.

On originals, the brushed texture of those 3...

console pieces also matched that of your glove box door.
