    Battery Replacement

I posted a battery question last week and in a nutshell I was warned about the longevity of reproduction batteries. In case I do go ahead and buy one, which reproduction would be appropriate for a 1971 LT-1? I see that Ecklers sells 3 different models (at least the descriptions seem different). There is an R79, an R89S, and an R89W.

If someone could let me know what the differences are and what I should look for I'd really appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Battery Replacement

a battery that is R-79 is not correct for a Corvette, so you can remove that one that leaves you with the R-89 an R-89W the R-89 is the standard battery for you car the R-89W is the heavy duty optional battery for you car. the case on the R-89 has the delco split circle logo on it The R-89W has a pattern on the case like the skin of a elephant So you could use either one of them, the R-89S are the R-89W

I would contact Tom Cobbman at Restoration Battery in Cincinnati (advertises in the DRIVELINE each issue. He should have the correct application battery.

Thanks Lyndon. I wonder why Ecklers sells the R-79 if it were not correct for a Corvette? Maybe I'll take Dick Wittington's advise and call Restoration Battery for their advice.

        Thanks again

Does anyone know what the part number is for a battery for a 1980 with 70 amp alt? And where can I get one?

The correct battery is not being made but check with the team leader listed in the Restorer he will tell you what will get the most points that you can buy today. I think it has changed in the last year. Lyle

According to the Judging Guide, "The Delco R79S is the standard battery for all small blocks in 1970 up to about s/n 11000. Model R79W is ...optional on small blocks to about the same serial number range. Subsequent Corvettes have R89S for small blocks and R89W for big blocks and T60 (heavy duty battery) options."
