I am familar with small block casting numbers and where to find the engine code and serial number but i am looking at a 69 427 and was wondering where the casting number for the block and the cast date is and if there is a pad similar to the small block with the car serial number and engine code on it and where that might be.
Thanks in advance
Sheldon
Big block casting numbers are found on the bellhousing flange, usually on the left (driver) side.
Big block casting DATE location changed during the 1969 model year. Early engines with the 3935439 and 3955270 blocks had the casting number located on the right side of the block, in the area roughly near the end of the starter. Later 1969 with the 3963512 block, the casting date was changed to the right side bellhousing flange in a location similar to small blocks.
Big blocks of the 65-74 era have an engine stamp pad forward of the right side cylinder head, just like small blocks. On the pad is the engine production code ("T" + day/month + suffix code) and the VIN derivative. The order of the 2 stampings is reversed from the small block order, though.
