    78 Rear Suspension Trailing Arms

    Hi Everyone:

Getting ready to install my rear spindles into the trailing arms but before I do I have a few questions:

    - Which direction is the parking brake anchor bolt retainer installed? I.E. Which end is up?

    - I've greased my rear spindle bearings with a bearing packer, however is additional grease applied to the cavity in the spindle support between the inner and outer bearing races?

    - Lastly, the lever which the rear parking brake cable attaches to has a loop. Is the loop installed facing up or down? As I have it installed the loop is up where you can see it and the parking brake cable lays on top of the lever after the cable is installed. I tried to install the lever with the loop facing down and I couldn't get it through the backing plate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thanks Joe

The retainer should have the tapered ends facing up. Those retainers have small internal tabs on them to keep them from spinning as does the collar that the bolt passes through, so make sure that they arn't bent or M.I.A.

DO NOT pack the cavity with grease, it serves no purpose. The grease on the bearings is all you require so double check that they are adequately packed.

Cable levers are installed with the open end down. They are a bear to work through the backing plate but be patient they will go.

Hope this helps you along Joe,

    Chuck
