Hard start problem

I have a 69 L-46 350/350 that I have just put a brand new 7029207 carb on.It had an incorrct holly on it when I bought it, but started very easy.I since have put on the correct intake, installed the brand new still in the wrapper carb after trying 2 rebuilts that were not good and the car is miserable to start.I have to pump it 10-12 times after setting the choke and it still turns over 10-12 times before it starts, it runs perfect after I get it started and warmed up a little. Any help would be appreciated.

Check for a vacuum leak ( intake or carb gasket)

How does it start after driving it throughout the day? I removed my original Q-Jet off my 70 because of the hard starting in 1974 and I am still using a Holley. The Q-Jets can leak fuel and become hard stating, having to pump fuel to fill up the carb after sitting when starting the car.

It was a vacuum leak alright.You have heard the one about 2 many cooks in the kitchen! I had a friend helping me! Well when I checked the Carb bolts they were all finger tight!He said I thought you tightend them ,I said I thought you tightend them! Well they are tight now and it starts in a turn and a half or 2 turns! Thanks for all the support! I am not a mechanic but do what I can, and all you guys are a lot of help! Thanks again.
