    1957 powerglide transmission

I need to know if the "output shaft" on a 1957 cast iron trnasmission can be replaced, along with the tail-shaft, by just onbolting the tailshaft from the transmission???

The 1957 tranny has a 1960 output shaft and tailshaft. The 1957 tailshaft is longer than the 1960 tailshaft and I need to put it back to original for the shifter to align properly through the floor board.

Can this be done without tearing the whole transmission apart?????????

    Thank you in advance,

    Mike
