    C2 66 seat carpet flap

I have been told of two different methods for cutting the carpet flap that covers the seat runner and bolt from view. One is cutting the flap from the side of the runner, inside to outside and the other is cutting the flap from in front of the seat, so it opens and closes from front to rear. I have a 3rd Edition Judging Guide that indicates the carpet is cut in a manner so that the hinge of the flap is toward the middle of the seat and hinges to close from the inside to outside.
I have just purchased the 4th Edition, has this description changed at all?

Any one have pictures, I believe that a 65 and 66 are the same.

If you are not clear on what the manual describes, I would contact Ray Morrison, the '66 Technical Advisor and National Judging Team Leader.

Originals were hinged in-board, open out-board. *NM*

Here is a link to a picture I took of an original 65 driver side carpet cutout. Picture is from center of car looking out.

Is cutting the carpet completely out from under the full length of the seat rails the proper procedure? I'm installing new carpet in my '66, and was not planning on doing that!

Just the 4 corners under the rail for the bolts. *NM*

              Eric,

------Despite what the other poster has stated there is, indeed, a full length cut under both rails of every 65 or 66 Corvette. If you dont cut the carpet out just as the factory did on every one of them and you tighten the front bolts down you will warp the framework of your seat slightly and your seat may not adjust as smoothly as it should. You really should look for a car with original carpet (yes, they are still around) to be able to make the cuts and the flaps to exactly the same dimensions as they were originally! Believe me, you will be happy you did..........Bill S
