Stamping on 70 trans and resr

Can anyone help me identify the following stampings from a 70 Coupe I'm buying?

    Trans POR31A

Rear 2CAM11970 Not totally sure about this, it was hard to read.

Where is the VIN stamped on the rear, I didn't see it near this stamping.

    Side Glass AS2 VV DOT 15 M74

    Windshield AS-1-83-66-55M 714GM

    Thanks,

    DV

Tranny. P=Muncie 4 speed. O=1970. The following letter represents the month, but can't be R. If it is actually a B then it would be February. 31 is 31st day of the month. A = 2.52:1 wide ratio.

Rear. CAM is model year 1970 3.36 posi. 11 would be November and next two would be the day - can't be 97 so you will have to recheck. Last letter should be E for Eaton plant tor W for Warrent plant. VIN is not stamped on the rear.

Dennis, the glass codes you have given us are not the important ones. Somewhere near the LOF logo there will be a two letter date code; using that and your car's build date, you can tell if the glass is original or replaced.

          Dennis,
As a matter of fact the transmission build stamp CAN be an R = October.

The manual transmission date stamps only follow the A=January, B=February, up to E=May. After that the letters for the month jump a lot.

The answers to these, and other stamped and cast number and date information is in the 1970-1972 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide (TIM&JG). Get ready for the shameless plug....Available from the NCRS store. Just a mouse click away from the button at the top of this page.

Does the owner have the protect-0-plate for the car?
