I have a 1966 convertible with a black interior. Somewhere in its life the center dash and speaker cover were painted a gloss black. I know this is an incorect finish, but have not been able to asertain what the correct finish is - simi flat black, or semi gloss black. Can anyone help me? also, would this smae color be used for the steering column?

Re: 1966 dash colors
Per the Ditzler '66 Chevy color charts for interior, the color code for the dash is 9292, and it is referred to as "flat Black"Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 1966 dash colors
Thanks Bill. Three follow up questions. Would Krylon Flat Black be a comparable color. Is the speaker grill painted the same color. How about the lower windshield trim? Any other items? Finally, is this information contained in the NCRS judging manuel?
Again, thanks for all your help

Re: 1966 dash colors
Used on Lower instrument trim panel, Radio speaker screen, Steering jacket and hub, halo panel and rear window garnish moldings. I cannot say how well krylon would match up.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 1966 dash colors
Darrell,
I would recommend Kylon 'Semi-Flat' black (I believe it's #1613). I used it on my '65 with great results. The 'Flat' black would be too flat and thus prone to very easy scraping and scratching. I believe there's also a John Deere 'blitz black' available in a semi-gloss or semi-flat gloss level that is also said to work well. In all cases, the secret to success is to clean and degrease the surface well and apply the paint in light coats (this is also important to retain the correct 'grain' on the glove box door and console trim plate).
Good luck!

Re: 1966 dash colors
I used original SEM Trim Black for gauge cluster, center dash, speaker screen, and steering column. For top and side inner windshield garnish molding and halo panel, I used gloss black laquer obtained from Al Knoch.
