    1964-Spider cracks

    Folks,

I'm a member of WNYNCRS. My car is a '64 coupe in Riverside Red/Black.
About 6 years ago I had it repainted in original style lacquer. The job was exceptional; like a mirror. However, soon after it developed a spider web crack about the diameter of a $.50 piece inside the driver's side hood cove. You really had to get in the right light to even see it, but given what I paid for the paint job I figured I'd eventually get it fixed.
Well, last spring ('03) I spoke to the folks who did the original job about getting it corrected. I figured it was their error so they'd do it gratis. Well, no. They charged me $400 dollars. And, it took four months to do it. My wife wasn't happy, but it was supposedly fixed. But, no. The new paint sagged & cracked again in the same spot.
So, I went back to them & showed them the current situation. At first they said it was my fault??! But, given the nature of what had happened they finally suggested that maybe they hadn't let the paint "cure" long enough. So, they agreed to do it again.
They did. This time it took three months. But it seemed to be solved.
O.K., so It sat all last winter. All was fine. I took it to two shows in June. All was fine. Then, at a block party/show last week I was blown away when I noticed that the original crack was suddenly back! Just like that.
Ergo, my question is......what do I do now. I definitely want this corrected & I don't care who does it. But, is there any way to prevent this from happening again??
Any suggestions are more than wecome at this point.

    Thanks,
    Jack

There is one spot there that the hindge bolts will hit from the bottom if it has the wrong bolts. Does this happen to be over the hood hindge?

      Jack,
I have a similar spot on my hood in about the same location...at least judging by your description. I found the source on my car and may be similar situation for you. I have an aftermarket brass radiator on my car and the bulge/fitting where the upper radiator hose connects to the radiator is rubbing/touching the inside of my hood. I would think there is quite a bit of heat being transferred at that point from the hot coolant and causing the spot on the surface of my hood. If you too have a radiator other than the original Harrison aluminum, it may be the culprit. Worth checking out anyway.
