    C3 Vibration

My 1970 vibrates real bad between 50-53 and then smooths out after that. I have brand new tires and they were balanced before I fiinished restoring the car. If you look at the car from the front it looks like the caster is a little too positive. If you let go of the wheel the car doesnt pull one way or the other. What should I do first? Go get it aligned? Take it back in to have the wheels balanced? Think about replacing the steering components? Thanks for the help.

I would definitely start with the tires, first rebalance, then rotate front to back if that doesn't solve the problem.

Don, to help you diagnosis your problems you need to be a little more specific about your vibration. Does the steering wheel shake? Or does the whole car vibrate. Give us a hint please, and I am sure someone can figure out what is wrong.

        Don,
Find a shop with a Hunter GSP9700 wheel balancing machine. Even a square wheel can be balanced, so balance is only part of the vibration issue. A wheel/tire can be out of round also.
Follow the link below to find a shop with this Hunter machine. After your wheels have been balanced on this machine, you can truly eliminate wheel balance as a source of your vibration.

This (load) balcance machine is excellent. It will literally show you via computer monitor the shape of the area out of balance and will tell you the area on the rim that is compatable to match it with (high spot matched with low spot). All Lexus service departments are required to have one of these machines so you can take your tires there to have them balanced. This is the best machine out there in my opinion and the first place to start.

            Don:

Don't forget to check the motor mounts.

My 68 set up a vibration at speeed when I first got it, and it turned out to be bad motor mounts.

            Good Luck,

            Rich
