    1958... vapor lock??

    Hello-
    Well after 13 Vettes since 1978, models no later than 1963, I finally bought a solid axle. I bought a red 1958 on Saturday, and headed for the highway when it acted like it was vapor locking and shut down. On the frigggggin highway. A big thank-you goes out to those truckers who tried to be helpful by blaring their horns at me when they zoomed by.

    I wasnt sure if the gas gauge worked (it read full) so I went to top it off and put in... 75 cents. Uh, that's full.

    Anyway, I was told vapor lock was common on these models. Ive never heard this. Any input? The motor is a NOM 283.

    The first thing you need to do is isolate the problem to decide if it is fuel or ignition. I have not heard of vapor lock being a common problem. Don H.

      Me either. It usually proves to be another problem like fuel filter, gas tank vent hose plugged or kinked, fuel pump ect. It would be hard to vapor lock a C1 since the fuel tank sits so much higher than the fuel pump inlet. There will always be positive head presure on the pump inlet unless you are out of gas, which you weren't.

        I've had 40+ solikd axles--never a vapor lock, even once!

          Thanks for the responses... I hadn't heard the vapor lock thing before, either. Seller replaced the fuel pump today, says that was it. We shall see... now, I suppose I need a 58-60 NCRS manual...
