I know that the 63-4 manual lists this as an available tire - was it also used for at least part of the year in 1962? Thanks.

Definately YES
Both blackwall and white wall "low profile" Safety 800s were used.

JM is wrong!
Air-ride was a blackwall only (I think) U.S. Royal tire going all the way back to 1948! Also, I think it was a tube type only. In 1989, when the 1958-60 JM was written, (Mainly my John Amgwert & yours truly), there was such a panic to meet publishing dates that this error went undetected. I will take 100% responsibility for the mistake. I'm the one who wrote it!

Air Ride was available in a wide white wall after all! My Dad bought a 1948 Chevrolet and it did come with wide white wall Air Rides. Also, the steering column gear shift was vacuum assisted!

In this age of being politically correct, one should NOT say that the JM is "wrong"; it is preferable to state that "it is just a little short of being 100% correct"; in any case, I will take my tire to Pomona and offer it for sale as correct for 1962-64.Comment
