    63 coupe door removal

I am in the process of repainting my 63 coupe. In order to remove the doors, I am trying to use the method described in the restorer volume 29 number 3 Winter 2003 page 33, by Robert Pelland.

I am unable to locate the cement nails listed as 3 3/4" x 11/64.

The largest nail I have been able to locate is 3" x .300"

Has anyone else tried this, and if so did you find the correct nails?

    Thanks

    Tom,

Without getting up to find the article, I believe the method used is to drill a hole in the upper and lower hinges thru the shims and backing plate and use a nail to realign them on assembly.

Here's what I've been doing for years. Use a 1/4" drill bit and drill a hole thru the hinge, shims and backing plate. Completely thru! Do this on both the upper and lower hinges. Then mark the shims taken from each hinge (if any) for reassembly.

Upon reassembly use a couple (2) 1/4" bits as your alignment tools thru each hole--upper and lower. The bits are tight and offer a perfect alignment with doors. This alignment is especially critical with a Coupe.

    Regards,
