C2 Ignition Shielding Installation

Could anyone provide tips on how to install an ignition shielding kit on a C2 small block engine (327 hp/300 cu. in) with the engine in the car? The engine has no options such as air conditioning, power steering, etc. I realize that it will not be easy.

Won't be that hard IF you aren't missing the lower v-shields (sometimes called 'boomerangs'). The rest of the shielding items simply affix with wing nuts your copy of the AIM (assembly instruction manual) shows the orientation of the various pieces in the U69 option section at the rear of the book.

The general 'trick' is to install the individual shielding brackets firmly but NOT fully tightened so you can 'swing' and re-orient them to mate up with the individual wing nut holes in the shield assy's themselves. Once you've got the individual shields loosely installed, remove each shield and do a final tightening of the mounting brackets then re-install the shields.

If they left off the lower v-shields when they routed the plug wires, be prepared to GRUMBLE and mutter! In some cases you'll find an interference fit if later era 'locking' motor mounts have been used in place of the factory original 'non locking' mounts and you may have to loosen the motor mounts, jack the engine a bit to gain clearance and perhaps mill away a bit of shielding material to get a non-interference fit. It'll become clear when you get into the job....

Boomerang brackets in place and new wiring properly routed. New style motor mounts now installed. However, the right side lower spark plug wire bracket was left off. Appears to be fastened to the block. Is there clearance at the back of the engine to fasten this bracket?

I'm trying to remember the installation I did on my 63 a couple of years ago. There are 2 wire looms (Brackets) which fasten to the block. The left side fastens with a 1/4" bolt to the block next to the block number. The right side also has a 1/4" bolt to the block. The block is machined for the 1/4" bolt. If you are trying to install the sheilding on a 350 CI non Corvette engine the bolt hole will not be there. You would have to drill and tap for the bolt.
