    60 Vette leaks

First I want to thank the great folks of the Windsor area who did such a fantastic job at the convention. They did a super job, and I enjoyed it. Thank you.
Now, my Vette needed a bilge pump, any suggestions how to stop all the leaks under the windshield. Thanks. Don

    Don,

When I drove my 67 for the first time in the rain on a cross country drive through Kentucky, my experienced southern and eastern friends didn't ask if it leaked but how much. I think they all leak, I bought a door mat that fit perfect across the header to at least stop the drips from landing on my knees. Now that I'm home in CA I use it to protect my folding top window.

I heard that there were a couple of close drowning situations but none were actually lost.

Hi Don, I also have a 60 that leaks around the windshield when it rains. As I live in the rainy Northwest, a number of Corvette owners showed me a trick that they use when they get caught in the rain. They use silver duct tape on the outside of the windshield top and bottom. They use fairly wide tape and run it along the chrome molding and onto the glass at the windshield bottom and run it from the top edge of the windshield across the chrome molding and onto the front edge of the soft top vinyl. This keeps all the water from coming in from the bottom and top of the windshield and getting on your dash or on your knees. Because it is silver, it doesn't look all that bad. I have used this technique myself and it really works! The inside of my car and my legs used to get soaked, but no longer. A really low-tech solution but it actually works. When you get to your destination or it stops raining, just peel off the duct tape and it's as good as new. Now I never leave home without my trusty roll of silver duct tape.

Isn't that what those drain plugs in the floor are designed to deal with?

Some times even when you install the windshield you get some water. After I install it I also use black silicon between the body and frame , smooth it using my finger, also makes it look good .

I also recommend using tape to solve the leak problem. But I recommend black vinyl electrical tape. I have never had the adhesive transfer. Start at the back of the leak and work forward so that the wind does not have a chance to lift the tape.
